The concept is unique: a traditional English prep school education but for half the day all classes are taught in Mandarin. Kensington wade is the first of its kind in UK offering a Chinese- English bilingual prep school. The school aims to deliver students with fluent Mandarin Chinese, a bilingual mindset and the ablility to transfer comfortably between two cultures. The headmistress (Jo Wallace) is highly experienced in the UK independent school having headmistress for a number of years in a top independent school (Putney High). Chinese Program Coordinator Jing Wang worked as a Chinese lead teacher in Washington Yuying Public Charter School, one of the leading Chinese immersion schools in the US, delete please to name but a few. The school is due to change locations to Notting Hill tube station in September 2021 and is currently in a large purpose built building near Kensington Olympia. The curriculum has been carefully planned to combine the best of British and Chinese system and there is an average class size of 20 pupils. English is taught similarly to other prep schools following EYFS and Read write Inc. phonics programme. Maths follows the Shanghai Maths approach, encouraging thoroughly acquiring an understanding of an area of math before moving forwards. Kensington Wade was inspected by Ofsted in 2018 and has been rated ‘outstanding ‘ in all areas, they particularly admired the excellent behavior of children and progress made and the excellent quality of teaching in both Chinese and English. Early assessments have shown children make rapid progress due to excellent teaching, small class sizes and supporting and enthusiastic parents.
