Young England is a well-established and respected nursery and is well known as the establishment Princess Diana taught at before her marriage. The nursery’s motto is “where learning is serious fun!’ and there is free access to stunning St George’s square in Pimlico. It is housed in a large, light church hall next to St George’s Square and includes a busy programme of Ballet, Music, Little Kickers, Gardening and French. The headmistress, Kay King, has been running nursery since 1973 (and has now been joined by her son Henry) and has a great deal of knowledge and experience as well as established links with the surrounding junior schools. The school focuses on developing strong social skills, self-confidence and good manners in addition to the academics. The recent Ofsted report judged the nursery to be outstanding in all areas and especially commended the “behavior of the children,” “the stimulating and very homely learning environment” and “highly skilled teaching methods.” To register it is important to make an appointment to view the school and collect a registration form. Any child may be registered from birth as they are accepted purely on a “first come first served” basis. The afternoon class is for a smaller group of 25 children aged from two and a half years to three plus. It is specifically geared for these younger children and has a high ratio of staff to pupils. The session is less structured than the morning, but provides a similar wide variety of activities including a music class.
